Mike Smith:
John, we’ve talked about how understanding personality types can help us parenting our children better. Would you tell us how and why to help our children understand their own temperaments?
John Trent:
Well, there are certain kids that just charge into life. They almost feel like, “Boy, I don’t need anything,” but they’re going to hit a time when “who they are” gets questioned. Maybe they don’t make the first team; they’ve done great in everything and now they’re beginning to struggle. And it’s real helpful at that point, I think, and even before, for a parent to step in and say, “Hey! Here’s some things that God has built into your life;” really to bless them is what we call that, by understanding who are they uniquely. Are they that lion with great strengths, or that otter that just lights up the room, or the golden retriever that really senses needs and is very compassionate, or that beaver that closes loops and makes sure that everything is done well? Man, when a kid can understand their strengths from a parent that blesses them, that’s a tremendous way to give them a lifetime legacy of love.
Mike:
Well that’s great John! Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom with us today! Listeners, join us next time for more from John. And until then, I’m Mike Smith.
