Mike Smith:
Dr. Russell Moore has joined us this week to talk about adoption. Dr. Moore, last time you explained why adoption is an important issue for Christians. How do you advise families to know whether they should consider adopting or not?

Dr. Russell Moore:
Well, the most important thing is simply to start praying and asking God to give you two things: one, the desire to adopt, and secondly the opportunity and the means to do it. And so I would encourage, for instance, couples in which one member of the couple is called to adopt and the other isn’t sure yet to be patient with one another and simply to give the Spirit time to work, to show you the direction that you want to go.

What you don’t want is to have a couple in which one person feels strongly about adopting or fostering and another member of the couple simply going along for the ride. You need to be unified together in this, which means just taking the time to pray, “Lord, show us, and give us the opportunities we need!” And don’t worry about all the logistical things—the home studies and the finances and all of that. If God’s calling you to adopt or foster, He’ll provide all of those things!

Mike:
Dr. Moore, we appreciate your sound insights on this important topic. Thanks for joining us today! And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
