Looking for an educational model that’s both new and time-tested? Today on Home School Heartbeat host and president of HSLDA Mike Smith concludes this week’s survey of education through various cultures-with an option for schooling that hits home! Mike Smith: Parents decide to homeschool for a variety of reasons. They might want to teach their children personal morals and ethics, or give them religious instruction. They might want to spend more time with their children, or get better academic results than public schools do. Some homeschool because of the opportunities it gives them to tailor education for special needs children, or for children with chronic health problems. Homeschoolers today are participating and doing well in dozens of extracurricular activities as well. You can find homeschoolers all over the place: in science clubs, drama clubs, sports and P.E. clubs, or music clubs—all because our children are curious and want to learn. As the years have gone by, so many civilizations have left their mark on education. And in homeschooling, we’re able to incorporate their strengths and modify their weaknesses. This long history of caring about education gives us a strong platform to stand for our convictions, and the results speak for themselves. We’re training our sons and daughters to become articulate, educated young people with passion and conviction, and HSLDA is here to help you do just that. Thanks for joining us in celebrating Teacher’s week! And until next time, I’m Mike Smith. |
