Chuck Bentley’s advice on teaching kids could inspire you to change the way you teach your kids finance! But what if your kids are already in high school—have you missed the boat? Today on Home School Heartbeat, Chuck joins host Mike Smith with suggestions for how parents can change gears.

Mike Smith:
As a concluding question this week, Chuck, would you tell us how parents can catch up on teaching their children biblical finance if they didn’t start early?

Chuck Bentley:
Well, I didn’t start early so I had to catch up, like you’re suggesting here, Mike. We led our oldest sons through Crown materials in a small group of other homeschooled boys and that turned out to be just a wonderful use of our time. And then we gave them what we call “financial field trips.” We would take them to eat out, to go shopping, to visit a business, and we even used CareerDirect to prepare them for their educational choices, post high school, to pursue the things they would be good at. And those experiences helped our children to catch up and be very, very good with money. And I’m proud to say that today our oldest boys who are now out of the home and living independently have applied those principles in their own lives.

Mike:
Chuck, thank you so much for joining us on the program this week. We’ve been very blessed by your wisdom. And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
