Where would you find a world-class journalist, a European barrister, a well-known Christian culture commentator, and lots of formerly homeschooled college students? It’s not a joke—it’s the Home School Heartbeat recording studio! Today, Mike Smith and Mike Farris recall hosting these guests on the program.

Mike Smith:
Well, we’re back, Mike, again talking about our 20th anniversary of Home School Heartbeat programs and today we want to focus on Patrick Henry College.

Mike Farris:
Well, on behalf of Patrick Henry College, I want to say thank you to HSLDA for letting us tell the story of the college on the air. And from the founding of the college to talking with some of our professors like David Aikman and John Warwick Montgomery, both of whom are very famous authors; Gene Edward Veith, who is a well-known critic of culture who was our academic dean and is now our provost.

But my favorite Patrick Henry radio show has to be the time when we talked to three of our students: Kyle Pousson, Rayel Papke, and Matthew du Mée about the experience of going to Oxford University, debating them, and beating them. It was exciting to see four homeschool kids from America go over and take on the Oxford team and do really well. And part of the reason that Oxford did reasonably well is they had one Christian homeschool kid from America on their team as well so it was exciting, but the one with more homeschool kids beat the team with fewer homeschool kids.

Mike Smith:
Well, that’s always exciting, and of course we know how great the PHC moot court competition is and the team. So, thanks for sharing with us. Until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
