For homeschooling families, the world has changed a lot over the past 20 years. The political climate is just one example. Today on Home School Heartbeat, hosts Mike Smith and Mike Farris talk about some of the political figures who have been guests over the past 20 years of the program.

Mike Smith:
Well, Mike, we’re back today, talking more about the programming we’ve done over 20 years of Home School Heartbeat, and today we’d like to talk about some of the political folks that we’ve interviewed. What are some of the most interesting interviews you’ve conducted?

Mike Farris:
Mike, we’d have to start at the top with Dick Army’s interview in 1994, how God delivered us in the most strategic battle ever in Congress over homeschooling freedom, the ability to be able to homeschool your kids without being certified teachers, was really a key victory.

We’ve talked to former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum, who was a homeschool dad; we’ve talked to Senator Tom Coburn, about Generation Joshua, who said “We didn’t have any other volunteers who compared to them.’

We talked to Michele Bachmann, again about her GenJ experience, and working with the homeschool kids that came out to help her in her elections. And she was really excited about that.

And, well my favorite interview of all time was talking to Clarence Thomas about his biography called My Grandfather’s Son. Justice Clarence Thomas’s interview is probably the favorite thing I’ve ever done at all the 20 years of Home School Heartbeat.

Mike Smith:
Well thank you Mike for sharing that with us today. And again, tune in tomorrow as we’ll talk more about our 20th anniversary at Home School Heartbeat.
