Can a leopard change his spots? We all know the answer to that. But, thanks to the grace of God, parents who have established poor patterns of child-rearing can change! Today on Home School Heartbeat Martha Peace joins host Mike Farris to offer hope and help for parents.

Mike Farris:
Martha, last time you talked about parents who may provoke their children to anger or discouragement. What if a parent listening thought, “You know what, that sounds like me!” How can we recognize and repent of those kinds of habits?

Martha Peace:
Well, it takes work. The parent absolutely must have a heart for God, and a hunger and thirst for God, and for righteousness, and wanting to please the Lord as well as wanting to bring their children up correctly. We start out with the gospel, and some just basic doctrine, that parents not only need to know themselves, but then how do you give the gospel to your children.

Stuart says there’s not one gospel for adults and another gospel for children. And in those chapters he gives a lot of very practical examples and tips about that. And the Lord will help a parent—they can learn the Scriptures, they can have the goal to be faithful to God’s Word by His grace and for His glory.

Mike:
Martha, thank you so much for those great insights. I hope that every mother listening buys the book, The Faithful Parent, and I hope every father reads it. I’m Mike Farris.
