When you’ve been a homeschooling parent for many years, you may find yourself dealing with boredom, or even discouragement. So how do you keep going? Today on Homeschool Heartbeat Denise Mira shares the lessons she’s learned about persevering in homeschooling.

Mike Smith:
Denise, last time you gave us some advice for juggling the day-to-day details of homeschooling. How about homeschooling over the long run? How can homeschooling parents continue to remain focused on shaping and preparing their kids for adulthood?

Denise Mira:
Mike, the key here is vision. We intend to raise godly men and women who lead in their generation—that’s our vision. Proverbs tells us that without a vision the people perish. They cast off restraint. They get lazy. You know, at first when we get the revelation of the power of home education, we have such energy for the job. But what I call “the dailies,” all those things that have got to be done—taxes, diapers, algebra, grocery shopping—can cloud our vision and bog us down.

But we must keep our vision before us—godly men and women, leading in their generation—remembering why we—re doing what we do. Time and again, we must be re-inspired, re-envisioned, reminded, through prayer, reading the Word, and rubbing shoulders with other likeminded comrades. Reminding ourselves that we have the most important job on the planet: to raise world-changers in our own homes. Then, once again, we are energized for the journey.

Mike:
Denise, thank you so much for your thoughtful advice! It’s truly important to keep the end goal in sight as homeschooling parents. And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
