Could today’s plastic skeleton model prepare tomorrow’s orthopedic surgeon? Learn how a good foundation in anatomy could open doors of opportunity for your child, today on Home School Heartbeat with HSLDA President Mike Smith and guest Jeannie Fulbright.

Mike Smith:
Jeannie, this week we’ve been talking about how homeschooling parents can teach anatomy. Let’s look ahead a little—if a student really enjoys this subject, where could it take him? What sorts of careers might anatomy be useful in?

Jeannie Fulbright:
Well, I believe that understanding the human body is beneficial for every single person because this is a science topic that’s relevant every day of our lives. We happen to live inside a human body so it’s really great to know what’s going on in our bodies. I think even if your dream is to one day be a mother, then anatomy is an essential subject to learn.

Just the other day my daughter came to me and was complaining about something wrong with her leg. And after having researched and written the anatomy book, I was able to pinpoint the problem, and through some tests with the doctor, they were able to confirm it.

Although there are also careers where anatomy is an essential subject to learn, such as medicine and nursing and dentists. Dental hygienists, pharmacists, chiropractors, even fitness trainers, need to understand anatomy.

Mike:
Well Jeannie, it’s been great to have you on the program this week! Thank you so much for joining us to explore teaching anatomy at home! Until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
