What’s your story? Homeschooling mom Jill Novak talks about why she and her family were inspired to begin writing together. Today on Home School Heartbeat with host Mike Smith, don’t miss Jill’s story—it just might inspire you to start telling your own family story!

Mike Smith:
Jill Novak has joined us this week to talk about how to get your family writing. Jill, would you share with our listeners the story of how your own family started writing together?

Jill Novak:
Well, I discovered this freeing approach to writing when my son Eric, who is 20, was 10. His older sister Claire, who is a visual learner, could write fluently at an early age. But Eric, an auditory learner and gifted story teller, couldn’t get his words on paper. It was through my search for a way to reach him that God made me aware of how powerful it is to write from what you know. That’s why I wrote The Gift of Family Writing, which includes all four of my children’s journal entries from age 2 and up, and the contributions of over 30 other writers.

Today, Eric is a gifted writer and graphic designer who produces his own online Christian webzine called Latitude 821, and Claire is a free-lance journalist, specializing in human interest stories. It is my prayer that all the parents and children who come in contact with this wonderful approach would love to write and be used by God, for His glory.

Mike:
Well, Jill, one thing I’m sure, is that your story will encourage a lot of our listeners to get involved in writing with their family. Thank you for joining us this week! And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
