Does the Bible have something to say about subjects like English, science, and history? What does it mean to be a Christian in the world of politics or mathematics? Today on Home School Heartbeat, hear how a biblical worldview is important to a specific high school subject.

Mike Farris:
I’d like to welcome to our program Dr. Robert Spinney. He’s a history professor at both Patrick Henry College and with the PHC Prep Academy. Thanks for being with us, Rob.

Dr. Spinney:
Hi, Mike. Thanks for having me on the program.

Mike:
Rob, why is a biblical worldview so important to the study of U.S. history?

Dr. Spinney:
Every U.S. history course is shaped by some kind of worldview—maybe it’s a secular worldview, maybe it’s a politically liberal worldview—but there’s no such thing as a neutral U.S. history course that is uninfluenced by a worldview.

So a U.S. history course like the one in the PHC Prep Academy—this course displaces unbiblical worldviews, and replaces them with the biblical one. And the result is that you get a history course that talks about man’s sinfulness; it talks about God’s acts of judgment in history, talks about how God often brings good out of bad situations, and it talks about the blessings that people enjoy when they honor God.

Mike:
Dr. Spinney will be teaching AP U.S. History at PHC Prep this fall. Thanks so much for joining us. I’m Mike Farris.
