Is it time to tighten the belt on your family budget? …Stretch your dollar? …Pinch pennies? How do you describe frugality? Your attitude is the best place to start making improvements, according to today’s guest on Home School Heartbeat, with HSLDA President Mike Smith.
Mike Smith:
This week, I’m pleased to have Lisa Baughn on the program with me. Lisa is a speaker, wife, and homeschooling mom. Lisa, welcome!
Lisa Baughn:
Thank you so much for having me! It’s an absolute honor to be here today.
Mike:
Lisa, these days, many families are finding it necessary to budget better and economize at home to make ends meet. Does it make a difference with what attitude they approach these changes?
Lisa:
Absolutely! Attitude makes a huge difference. Several years into this recession, many families relate to this, with unemployment, underemployment, housing prices going down, food and gas are way up, and we’re living on a single income. And Proverbs says house and wealth are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the Lord. And I just encourage you to be encouraged. We can transform our lives into the Proverbs 31 woman, into being a prudent wife. It’s something that we can all move towards. And that is about living life with an eye toward the future, considering what is done today impacts tomorrow. And the Lord really began showing me this is all about attitude. We know that the joy of the Lord is our strength, and that leaves us with a choice. In challenging circumstances, are we going to quit, or are we going to go forward, face the challenges, praying for wisdom and studying the word daily—trusting Him.
Mike:
Lisa, that’s a terrific perspective! We’ll talk more next time. And until then, I’m Mike Smith.
