What does the future hold for homeschooling? While we can’t know that, we can keep our eyes open to current developments! Today on Home School Heartbeat, Mike Smith and Mike Farris talk about a few issues to watch.

Mike Smith:
Mike, this week, we’ve talked about a number of important events in the last 10 years of homeschooling. Obviously, only the Lord knows the future. But looking ahead, what substantial issues, or events, do you see coming for homeschooling?

Mike Farris:
Mike, recently I read all of the law review articles that have been written about homeschooling in the last five years. I was astonished at the number of articles there were, and secondly, how stridently so many people have attacked homeschooling and homeschooling freedom.

There are authors who are law professors in big name schools like Emory University, William and Mary Law Review, they teach at George Washington University, and so on. These law professors, who are training the next generation, want homeschooling severely regulated; some of them call for the banning of all private schools—including homeschools. Why? Because they don’t like the fact that Christians are teaching their kids that Jesus is the only way to God.

This violates the standards of tolerance that are in Article 29 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and is the general modus operandi for the liberals these days. You must be tolerant of all religions. If you teach people that Jesus is the only way to God, you’re violating their standards.

We’re going to have a battle on this, and we need to stand up, and we need to prevail.

Mike Smith:
Mike, thanks for being with us this week. It’s always an honor to be in the studio with you.

Until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
