There are so many sides to any question—how do you come to a position on complicated issues of policy? Today on Home School Heartbeat, homeschooling mom Mariah Perrigan discusses a worksheet she designed to help her family with that process. Mike Farris: Another important aspect of civic involvement is learning to address issues in a constructive fashion. Mariah, tell us about the worksheet you and your children complete for current policy issues. Mariah Perrigan: It’s based on a table, it has three sections for the godly men and women to record their answers in, and it’s broken into these sections: (1) what God says generally (or specifically!) about the issue in His word; (2) what the representative has communicated about his views on the issue; (3) the godly man or woman’s personal insights as they relate to the current issue. The last box on the form asks them to translate this wisdom into a proposal for action. Honestly, I believe this is the most important part of the worksheet because, by offering positive feed-back in response to a problem, instead of just complaining about it, we are illustrating a Christ-like willingness to be part of the solution.
