People often say that a certain friend is the brother or sister they never had. The Mally siblings reply that brothers and sisters are the friends God has already given! Join host Mike Smith and his guest Stephen Mally, co-author of Making Brothers and Sisters Best Friends, on today’s Home School Heartbeat.

Mike Smith:
Siblings don’t often think it’s important or even necessary to work on their relationships. Stephen, how can parents help their children understand the “big picture” of how God wants to use their friendship?

Stephen Mally:
A friend of ours was invited to a Christian family’s home for dinner. This young man wasn’t a Christian at the time, and while he was there he couldn’t help but notice the peace in that household and how well the children got along with each other. And he was so curious about this that he began asking questions. And the family told him that Jesus was the one who had given the joy and the love to their family, and he ended up putting his faith in Jesus Christ. And today he is the director of a Christian camp. And I’m sure those children never imagined that, just by showing love to each other, they would lead this man to Christ.

This is what Jesus says in John 13:35: “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” You know, in our world today, the family is under attack. But when people see a godly family, especially a family where brothers and sisters are best friends, it really gets their attention. So being best friends with our siblings isn’t just for our own sake, or our parents’ sake, it’s for the glory of God, for the defeat of the enemy, and for our powerful testimony to everyone around us.

Mike:
Stephen, it’s been a true pleasure having you on the program with us this week, as well as your sisters. Thank you so much for your presentation! And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
