Not your average classroom chores
For the sake of my own sanity, I try to keep our home school as structured as a "real" school. However, I realized we are not nearly as traditional as I'd imagined, when I read one of my sons' answers to his workbook's request to "list classroom chores":
- Do dishes
- Do firewood
- Clean barn
- Till garden

A Home School Legal Defense Association member family in the Fillmore School District recently encountered a problem with the superintendent's office. Their son had been receiving special education services from the school district as a preschool student, but the parents decided to withdraw him from the program and deal with the special education issues through private sources. When they did so, the district sent them a letter requiring them to fill out the school district's version of a home school notice of intent form.
HSLDA informed Fillmore that the child was below age seven, Minnesota's compulsory attendance age, and therefore, the family was not required to file any notice of intent. — Darren A. Jones
