Madison County Seeks “Home School Registration”

A Home School Legal Defense Association family residing in Madison County received a form from the county superintendent of schools entitled Home School Registration even though the family had already notified the superintendent of the children’s attendance in a home school. The form required first-year home schoolers to provide a copy of the birth certificate for each child being taught at home. Other unauthorized information sought in the form included each child’s date of birth and whether the student was at the elementary or secondary level.

Since the family had already complied with state law in providing the required notice, HSLDA advised the family to disregard the form. To date, there has been no follow-up by the county superintendent to the initial request for completion of the form. Other home schooling families receiving such forms may disregard them as well.
