The Straight Facts, Please

Occasionally, newspapers will print articles with mistaken or misleading information about home education. These are golden opportunities for home schoolers to graciously and directly set the public record on home schooling in their area straight.

The Woodford County Journal, located in Eureka, Illinois, published an article entitled “Local School Enrollments Declining Slightly.” The article stated that “parents of children who are home schooled are supposed to register with the Marshall-Putnam-Woodford regional office of education.” However, Illinois law does not require home schoolers to register. Home School Legal Defense Association attorney Scott Woodruff wrote a letter to the Journal’s editor, explaining this and asking that the letter be published.
