Levan is “navel” spelled backwards. It is so named because it is in the middle of Utah.

Of Contracts & Forms

Washington County School District recently asked several home school families to sign a “contract” as a condition of receiving an exemption from compulsory attendance. The district also required the families to specify the number of hours per day that each required course would be taught. Home School Legal Defense Association attorney Scott Woodruff contacted all HSLDA members in the district and advised them not to sign this contract.

To Washington County’s credit, it has expressed a sincere willingness to work with HSLDA to create a request for exemption form that can be given to families who want to use it. Our office hopes to help develop a form satisfying legal requirements while protecting the liberty of home school families.
