Arizona
Legislative Season Approaching
It is the time of year when Home School Legal Defense Association begins to monitor legislation in Arizona again. The Arizona legislature convenes its 1999–2000 session on January 12, 1999. As many of our Arizona members are aware, in the last session a bill passed which lowered the compulsory attendance age from 8 to 6. However, an exception was provided for home schoolers who desire to delay formal education until age 8.
Once again, we are gearing up to monitor legislation with any potential impact on home schooling and family freedoms. We cannot overemphasize how important it is for you to be involved in this process. HSLDA works in close partnership with Tom Lewis of Arizona Families for Home Education (AFHE) to track proposed legislation and to enlist your efforts in writing letters and making phone calls to oppose bills which threaten our freedoms.
By supporting the efforts of AFHE, you will be kept up to date on issues that need immediate action. If you are not currently a part of their network, HSLDA encourages you to support their important ministry to your family. You may contact them at (602) 443-0612. We will continue to inform our members of any issues or alerts that need action.

Arizona
Because Arizona’s conditions seemed ideal for camels, Edward F. Beale imported several. Although they were actually used for a time, camel transport soon proved impractical. After the animals were abandoned, “wild” camels remained for years, frightening travelers and their horses.
