HSLDA Is Moving To A New Location!

During the month of May, 1989, the Home School Legal Defense Association will move its headquarters to a recently purchased building in Paeonian (Pay-oh’-nee-an) Springs, Virginia. The new office building is the former Paeonian Springs Hotel, a beautiful, three-story, recently restored, Victorian-style structure located about 30 miles northwest of Washington, D.C., and 15 miles west of the Great Falls office.

HSLDA’s membership base has been steadily increasing since its founding in 1983 by President Michael Farris, and we now have over 10,500 members from all fifty states. We moved into our Great Falls, Virginia, office in April of 1986, but have now outgrown that space. Desiring to be faithful stewards of the funds entrusted to us by our member families, HSLDA decided to purchase a building, rather than continue paying the rapidly increasing rents in the D.C. metropolitan area. The new building should have enough space to serve as a virtually permanent headquarters for HSLDA.

Although plans for the purchase of the building have been in the works for nearly a year, HSLDA faced a drawn-out battle to get a zoning change, since the building had been zoned for residential use. Finally, on February 16, 1989, the Loudoun County Board of Zoning Appeals granted us the change we requested.

Unfortunately, our move comes at the start of our busiest time of the year. We are making every effort to keep things running smoothly, but we would appreciate your assistance and patience during this time. Most importantly, please note our new address and phone number, and spread the word to others you may know who are applying for membership with HSLDA. Mail will be forwarded from our Great Falls address, but the forwarding process is generally not a highly efficient or speedy one.

To be sure that applications and other correspondence are processed as quickly as possible, please be sure to use our new address after May 10. We will begin picking up mail at our new office prior to the move, and recommend using the new address after May 10 to ensure that your mail isn’t slowed down by having to be forwarded. The address is:

Home School Legal Defense Association

Paeonian Springs, VA 22129

Our actual moving date is Memorial Day weekend, and our new phone number as of May 26th, will be: (703) 882-3838.
