MINNESOTA

Proposed Law Comes Close

For the second year in a row, a proposal to enhance freedom for Minnesota homeschoolers has failed to cross the finish line. Minnesota Association of Christian Home Educators (MACHE) Legislative Liaison John Tuma and Home School Legal Defense Association have been working with legislators to encourage changes that would benefit homeschoolers. The changes include reducing the amount of paperwork and the frequency of required interaction between public schools and homeschoolers. The law also seeks to clarify vaccination reporting requirements and to remove the quarterly report card submission requirement. The proposed text of the bill can be found on HSLDA’s Minnesota page.

This year’s changes were included in an omnibus reconciliation bill, which did not pass the legislature. HSLDA expects the language to be included in the legislative process at some future time and encourages our members to support MACHE in this effort.
