Districts Require Unnecessary Forms
Two Home School Legal Defense Association member families—one in Bushland and one in Schertz—withdrew their children from the public school in order to homeschool them. In both cases, the public school insisted that, to continue their home education program, the families must fill out a homeschool notification form provided by the school. Each family received a packet with forms enclosed.
Both families contacted HSLDA to find out if these forms were necessary. HSLDA staff informed them that no notification or registration of a homeschool program is required in the Lone Star State.
HSLDA also sent letters to the school districts assuring them that the homeschool families were following Texas state laws for homeschooling and would not be filling out the forms that the school provided, since they are not required by law.
Neither family has heard from the public school since.
