Encouraged beyond Words

The Home School Foundation’s desire to give to homeschooling families does not stop when students graduate from high school. Every spring, HSF gives college scholarships to students from Home School Legal Defense Association member families who are planning to attend Patrick Henry College in Purcellville, Virginia.

“I am so thankful for this scholarship!” wrote Jared, one of 2008’s scholarship winners. “I had been worrying about how I would pay for my first semester. This scholarship is a blessing beyond any description. I am forever grateful to those who donated the money.”

Combined Federal Campaign

If you are a federal employee or a member of the military, make HSF the beneficiary of your donation. HSF’s CFC number is 10535. For more information, visit the CFC website.

Begun in 2001, the Patrick Henry College Scholarship Fund offers scholarships to incoming PHC freshmen based on financial need, academic merit, and participation in community service.

PHC, a Christian liberal arts college, has a unique outreach to homeschool graduates—many of whom come from single-income families, which can make it financially difficult when it comes to saving for college. Furthermore, the college has a commitment to not accept federal aid, ruling out a number of potential scholarships for students.

Jeremy, another of last year’s scholarship winners, was attracted to PHC because of the firm Christian worldview behind each major. “This scholarship has allowed me to attend without having to incur long-term debt,” he said. “It also encouraged me beyond words that HSF believed in me.”

“This scholarship has proven invaluable, considering the turmoil in which our economy finds itself,” said Mackenzi, another scholarship recipient.

HSF will be awarding scholarships to a new group of freshmen for the 2009 fall semester. We are excited to see what a difference the awards will make in young people’s lives as they seek to follow God's calling for them.

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).

Since 2001, the Home School Foundation’s Patrick Henry College Scholarship Fund has helped over 50 students. Many of these diligent young people have now graduated and are giving back to their communities. They work in government positions at the state and federal level, teach, attend law school, pursue graduate degrees, conduct cultural, political, and religious research and writing, work in film production and editing, and have started families of their own.

One of the amazing things about God’s kingdom is that investments yield unexpected results. When we give to meet others’ needs, we often find that God supplies our own needs in surprising ways.

During these rough economic times, we are so grateful for your partnership with the Foundation to help needy families send their children to college, help widows continue homeschooling, and help parents teach their special needs children. And we pray that God will fill your family’s cup to overflowing. “Whoever sows generously will also reap generously” (2 Corinthians 9:6b; NIV).
