Austin Concedes Homeschoolers’ Financial Aid

A Home School Legal Defense Association member family recently contacted us after their daughter tried to apply for federal financial aid at Austin Community College. The college told their daughter she was ineligible for the aid because she was a homeschool graduate.

HSLDA immediately wrote to the college, explaining that homeschool graduates are just as eligible as public or private school graduates for federal financial aid. Our letter included documentation of the federal financial aid regulation’s statement that homeschoolers are eligible.

In less than a week, HSLDA received a response. Austin Community College thanked us for clarifying the regulation and assured both us and the student that the aid would be granted. In addition, the college said that another homeschool student who had applied for the aid would now be eligible as well!
