Immunization Survey of Homeschoolers
A number of Home School Legal Defense Association member families in the North Kitsap School District recently received a letter requesting their participation in an immunization survey. The stated purpose of the survey is to assess the attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors of homeschooling parents regarding immunization.
To be conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the survey will target homeschooling parents with at least one child between the ages of 5 and 12 who has been educated primarily at home for nonmedical reasons. Families in several states, including Washington, will be asked to participate. The CDC hopes to use the results of the survey to develop informative materials for homeschooling parents.
HSLDA does not take a position on this kind of survey, but we do want you to be aware of your rights in relation to such surveys.
This immunization survey is not mandatory. Whether or not you participate will have no impact on your right to teach your children at home. No identifying information will be collected or shared with any outside agency if you participate.
