Counties Illegally Set Deadlines

Home School Legal Defense Association received reports from some of our Florida members that Lake, Glades, Bradford, and Miami-Dade Counties were setting a specific deadline by which year-end evaluations of homeschoolers were due.* This requirement is illegal.

HSLDA staff sent letters to each of these counties, outlining Florida homeschool law (which does not allow school districts to set a standard evaluation deadline for homeschoolers), and informing them that our members would not be fulfilling the requirement. Evaluations are due a year from the date a family sends their notice of intent. Therefore, the evaluation deadline is a different date for each family.
