A Boost for Parents

When Anita Cortez (names changed to protect family’s privacy) of Florida embraced a heart for God, she was immediately given a heart for adoption.

“I told [the Lord] to show me the way to follow Him and immediately it came to my mind to adopt a child,” she says. “I said, ‘God I want you to find me a baby girl who really needs me.’ ”

After a few years, Anita became a foster mother. Her first two charges were adopted by families within three weeks. Then, on Anita’s own birthday, she received a five-day-old baby girl as a foster child.

When several months passed and no one adopted the baby, the little girl’s social worker asked Anita if she wanted to adopt the child. Anita quickly sought the Lord to see if this was the child she had been asking for.

How to help

For more details on how you can help, please call HSF at 540-338-8899, visit www.homeschoolfoundation.org, or email info@homeschoolfoundation.org.

Jesus Christ, put in my heart if this is the child that you sent me and if she really needs me. God help me to discern, she remembers praying. “The next day I spoke with the social worker and gave my answer: Yes, I’ll take her.”

“I sometimes call her ‘child of God,’ ” Anita says of her daughter, Emma. She has faced many difficulties raising Emma. At age 3, Emma was diagnosed with autism. And when Emma reached school-age, Anita wanted to homeschool her but she faced the compounded challenge of financing home education and teaching a child with special needs.

Parents like Anita are why the Home School Foundation exists. HSF has been privileged to step in and help moms and dads who want to follow God’s calling in their lives and the lives of their children, but who may not be able to manage the financial demands of their situation. Through the Children of Single Parents Fund, HSF assisted Anita in giving her daughter the education she felt called by God to provide.

Thank you for your support of HSF and for taking part in helping parents and children around the nation and the world in their mission to educate their children.

Cherise Ryan is administrative assistant to the executive director of HSF.

From the Director

Chuck Hurst

Homeschoolers are some of the most generous people you’ll ever meet. Even those who have little money to share are willing to give what they have—time, energy, talent, or words of affirmation—to those in need.

HSLDA recently received a note from a Kansas mom who received a scholarship from HSF:

Thank you so much for granting our family a scholarship for HSLDA membership. It is so wonderful that we can maintain our membership during this financially trying time. . . . Bless you and all those that work so hard in this organization.

Through our Members Helping Members Fund, HSF is able to help families have peace of mind to focus on homeschooling by assisting them with the cost of HSLDA membership.

Thank you to each of you who have made HSLDA membership possible for these families. May the Lord bless your family! Remember, even when we do not hear words of gratitude, “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them” (Hebrews 6:10; New International Version).
