UC-Riverside Opens Door to Homeschoolers

The University of California-Riverside (UCR) has initiated a portfolio system by which it reviews college applications from homeschoolers applying as freshmen. Instrumental in designing the review system were two UC professors who are homeschooling dads. According to UCR Interim Director of Admissions Merlyn Campos, the homeschooled applicants who applied under the first portfolio review were impressive and UCR is interested in attracting more homeschooled applicants.

Questions? Contact UCR’s homeschool outreach counselor, Elizabeth Tisdale, at 951-827-3712 or elizabeth.tisdale@ucr.edu.

Note: Although the homeschool portfolio review system is currently a pilot program, available to applicants at only the UC-Riverside campus, the model is under review by the University of California Academic Senate, which will decide whether to extend the review system to all UC campuses.
