Legislation Affecting Homeschools Enacted
In April, Governor Haley Barbour signed into law House Bill 308 requiring local school boards to make available to parents of homeschooled students any textbooks on the state surplus inventory list that will assist in the homeschool instructional program. Parents will be responsible for returning the textbooks to the local school district after use. Failure to do so will result in the parent having to pay the school district the fair market value of the textbooks. The new law goes into effect on July 1, 2006.
