Harford clarifies unauthorized questions
AHome School Legal Defense Association member family recently alerted us to certain changes made by Harford County Public Schools to the homeschool notice of consent form.
The district had added two new questions to the form. One asked if the child had received or needed to receive special education services. The second asked for the name of the last school attended by the child.
HSLDA called the school district and spoke with the homeschool coordinator, reminding him that neither of the additional questions is required by the state regulations and that the school district is required to use a form prescribed by the state department of education.
The homeschool coordinator immediately agreed with HSLDA. He said that the school district never intended to pressure homeschool families to give out more information, but just wanted to be able to help them. He promised to change the form immediately to make it clear that both additional questions were optional.*
