The Judges

Art Cox, the graphic designer for Patrick Henry College, has worked in his field for over 15 years. He also teaches a class on print media graphics. He lives with his wife and five children in Winchester, Virginia.

After three years with Walt Disney’s Resort Design Department, Michelle Thoburn began teaching cartooning. She has over five years of teaching experience with both small and large groups. An accomplished, published illustrator, Michelle is currently completing a series of children’s books in Latin. She lives with her husband and two children in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

Rachel Darlena Randall has a passion for God and art. The second of four daughters, she has always loved to draw and paint . . on walls, furniture, and now on canvas. She has attended Northern Virginia Community College and Daniel Green’s workshop, and has studied portraiture under artist Patty Rice. She hopes to one day use this gift of art in ministry in Ireland.

Residing in Purcellville, Virginia, with her husband and their two sons, Teresa Jardines is the art director of Open Source Publishing, Inc., and a stay-at-home mom involved in several personal artistic endeavors. Teresa has taught drawing at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, worked in exhibit design and installation at the Art Institute of Boston, and taught at the elementary and high school levels.

HSLDA’s webmaster and art contest coordinator, Andrew Hawes lives with his wife and two children in Winchester, Virginia. Andrew has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Youngstown State University and has taught computer graphics at the college level.
