Marriage amendment passes

House Joint Resolution 6 is a constitutional amendment providing that marriage in the state of Texas consists only of the union of one man and one woman, and prohibiting the state or a political subdivision of the state from creating or recognizing any legal status identical or similar to marriage.

Because of your calls in support of HJR 6, it passed the Senate on May 22, 2005, and was signed in both houses the following day. Thank you for your support of this amendment!

Now that this constitutional amendment has passed the legislature, it will go to a vote by the people of Texas on November 8, 2005. If it passes, the amendment will become a part of the state constitution.
