School has a hard time saying goodbye

In 2004, Home School Legal Defense Association member Samantha Higgins* withdrew her daughter from public school because the school district refused to provide needed special education services. However, the district demanded that Mrs. Higgins continue to meet with school officials, attend Parent-Education Team meetings, and provide information to the school district. After HSLDA intervened, the officials backed down from their demands.

In February 2005, the school district once again demanded information from the family, and Mrs. Higgins called HSLDA for help.

We called the school officials, who explained that they needed the information so they could provide special education services to the daughter.

We wrote to the school district, emphasizing that Mrs. Higgins did not want any services from the school district since she had made her own arrangements for needed services. We believe the officials have now heard the message loud and clear and will no longer bother this family.
