Community college learns its lesson

Two years ago, the Jordan School District did its best to keep a homeschool graduate out of Salt Lake Community College (SLCC). Although Home School Legal Defense Association provided SLCC officials with a copy of the United States Department of Education's new letter supporting homeschool graduates' entrance into college, the local school district refused to recognize the Department's instructions. After a great deal of effort, Matthew Kent* was finally admitted to SLCC on a conditional basis. While the college refused to officially change its policy, it did allow Matthew to attend classes.

Two years later, without any fanfare, Matthew's younger sister has followed in his footsteps. According to Mrs. Kent,

looks like SLCC has learned their lesson. Our daughter, who is under 18, went last week to register as a homeschool graduate. We had no problem whatsoever. They accepted her as a matriculated student and even approved a payment plan for her. I guess Matthew just paved the way. Once again, thank you so very much for all you do for all of us.

HSLDA exists to defend the rights of homeschoolers across America. Our 300 Utah member families have banded together to make sure we can preserve the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity. Every homeschooler in the Jordan School District is better off because of the Kent family's courage and hard work!
