Homeschool registration sought

After sending in the required notice of intent to conduct a homeschool, a Home School Legal Defense Association member family in Big Horn County received a letter from the superintendent of schools advising that a Home School Registration form needed to be completed and returned to his office.* Among other things, the registration form asked for the parents' home telephone number, each child's date of birth and grade level, a copy of each child's birth certificate, and a description of the "organized course of study" being used in the homeschool. HSLDA Senior Counsel Dewitt Black replied to the superintendent on behalf of our member family, informing him that completion of the registration form and submission of the requested information was not required by state law. The superintendent has made no further efforts to acquire this data.
