LOUISIANA

Families brace for new legislation

Three Louisiana legislators have announced their intention to file bills in the 2003 legislative session to "tighten up" on the requirements for home study and homeschooling. Homeschoolers in other states have faced similar challenges over the past few years. But by God's grace and with much hard work, united homeschoolers have been able to defeat such legislation.

HSLDA is calling every Louisiana homeschooler to prepare for action in the 2003 legislative season. If you do not already know who your elected representatives are, simply type your zip code into HSLDA's online legislative toolbox (www.hslda.org/toolbox) to find them.

We encourage every Louisiana homeschooler, whether or not you are currently an HSLDA member, to call your own elected representatives to ask them to oppose any additional restrictions on homeschoolers. Please email information about these legislators' attitudes on homeschooling to us at legale@hslda.org. We also ask each member family to urge other homeschoolers to sign up for HSLDA's free e-lerts at www.hslda.org so that they can be effective in coming battles for freedom.
