Key assemblyman to sponsor home school bill

New York Assembly Deputy Majority Whip Harvey Weisenberg has agreed to sponsor the Assembly version of Senate Bill 4767, a measure that would eliminate the most burdensome restrictions of the law governing home instruction programs. Designated as Assembly Bill 11364, this bill will be considered by the Assembly Committee on Education as the first step in the legislative process by that body. Home educators in New York are pleased to have such a high-ranking assemblyman sponsor this bill.

Senators considering whether to vote for or against S.B. 4767 and assemblymen considering A.B. 11364 need to hear voices of support from members of the home schooling community. Although the vast majority of home educators favor the improvements this legislation would bring, there is a small but vocal minority who oppose these bills. HSLDA urges those who support this legislation to communicate their support by letter or telephone call to members of the Senate and Assembly Committees on Education in addition to their own state legislators in both houses.
