Easier Form Promoted by Department Of Education

The Louisiana Department of Education is distributing a new form for home schoolers to use in providing their application for exemption from the state compulsory attendance requirement. What makes this form new is that it also can be used to notify the department of a home school family’s intent to operate a private school.

The form is designed in several sections so that home schoolers need fill out only what applies to their option. Students’ Social Security numbers are not required under either the home schooling or private school option. Nor are home schoolers filing as private schools required to give any information about their students beyond the number of students enrolled.

Use of this form is completely optional. If used correctly, it can be a helpful tool to submit information to the department in a standardized format. Member families who have questions regarding precisely how to fill out the form should call HSLDA for advice. — Darren A. Jones
