Form Not Required

The DuPage Regional Office of Education recently wrote a Home School Legal Defense Association family in DuPage County, asking them to fill out a registration form to “help verify that [the] child is in compliance with the Illinois Compulsory School Attendance Law.”

Home schools are private schools under Illinois law, and private schools are not obliged fill out any such form. HSLDA advised this family not to return the form and advised the regional office of education that it has no right to insist on use of the form. — Scott A. Woodruff
