Sen. Paul Coverdell
(1939-2000)

HSLDA extends our condolences to Senator Paul Coverdell’s family. The Senator from Georgia died of a brain aneurysm on July 18.

Sen. Coverdell was a key leader on many legislative issues important to home schoolers including the A+ Education Savings Accounts. HSLDA presented the Senator with the 1999 Home School Freedom Award for his work to establish the military’s five-year pilot program for home school recruits.

Many names have surfaced to replace Sen. Coverdell. All of these candidates, on both sides of the aisle, have something in common: They won’t fill Paul Coverdell’s shoes.
