State Constitution Threatened

The Oklahoma Academy for State Goals is pushing a proposal to make it easier to amend the state constitution. Home School Legal Defense Association opposes this measure.

Oklahoma is the only state that specifically guarantees the right to home school in its constitution. Article 13, section 4 states that children must attend school “unless some other means of education are provided.” Oklahoma courts have consistently interpreted this language to support the right to home school. If the state constitution becomes easier to change, this valuable guarantee will be significantly less secure. – Scott A. Woodruff
