Registration Bill Tabled
House Bill 2756, the home school registration bill described in the last Court Report, has been sent back to the House Rules Committee. Realizing that the legislation would certainly be defeated if she pushed it to a vote, bill sponsor Representative Ricca Slone (D-92nd District) has asked that it be tabled. H.B. 2756 will receive no further attention this year. Since next year’s legislative session will be much closer to an election date, Home School Legal Defense Association believes that Representative Slone will not reintroduce this extremely controversial bill at that time.
Based on many reports of how impressed legislators were at the flood of phone calls, e-mails, and letters, it is obvious that home schoolers’ dedication to opposing this bill was crucial to its defeat. HSLDA thanks Illinois member families for everything they did.
