New Commissioner to Take Office
New Jersey has a very good home school law, but the state department of education has created so much confusion for local school districts that many home schoolers are being unnecessarily harassed. District after district is demanding that families bring in their curricula for review pursuant to the Klagholz Guidelines, which were issued in 1997 by Commissioner Leo Klagholz. Commissioner Klagholz has now stepped down, and a new commissioner, David Hespe, will take office this spring. We hope that the infamous Klagholz Guidelines will be one of the first things to go when the new commissioner takes office.
