MASSACHUSETTS

Leave Your Rights at the Door

Massachusetts House Bill 3611 would create "Gun Free School Zones" around every public or private school. Home schools are not identified by name, but this legislation, unlike that in other states, has no exemptions for possession of a firearm by a person in a private home.

A far more deadly problem is H.B. 1886, which would impose Outcome Based Education testing on every public, private, and presumably home school student in the commonwealth. This bill constitutes the most complete grab for state power the OBE movement has made to date. Home schoolers would be required to take tests on subjects they had not studied, which focus on "behaviors and attitudes in addition to real academics." This is without doubt the most serious threat Massachusetts home schoolers have faced since the infamous H.R. 6 battle of 1994. HSLDA is working with home schoolers to kill this bill.
