RHODE ISLAND

Liberty and Justice For All

Rhode Island law permits school boards to make any "reasonable" requests of secular homeschoolers, but places sharp limits on what they may demand of religiously-motivated families. Given Rhode Island's history of religious liberty (starting with Roger Williams), this is not too surprising. HSLDA has begun aggressively requesting that school boards liberalize their policies for all homeschoolers, to make sure that all families, not just religious families, have the freedom to educate their own children in their own homes.

HSLDA is committed to defending every member family's God-given right to educate their own children, whether those families are religious or secular. At this time, Rhode Island is a good state for religious homeschoolers and a bad state for those who are secular. We encourage all homeschoolers to work together to ensure equal justice for all!
