This bill would require local superintendents to ensure that any student who has been suspended or expelled from school attendance continues to receive an education. However, this bill does not specify what, if any, authority is given to superintendents to satisfy this requirement. This could result in a local superintendent assuming that they could employ whatever means they considered necessary to ensure that expelled or suspended students (many of whom go on to homeschool) continued to receive an education.
01/10/2012 (House) Introduced, referred to Education Committee
01/13/2012 (House) Assigned to Students and Early Education Subcommittee
02/02/2012 (House) Subcommittee recommends continuing to 2013
02/06/2012 (House) Continued to 2013 in Education
This bill will not progress further this year, but may be revisited when the session resumes next year.
