The Test of Ten - Helping our young people choose wisely and live rightly

This list of questions, which I've called the Test of Ten, served to guide Chris in countless decisions he had to make; furthermore, it helped shaped who he was: a strong, faithful and incredibly useful man of God who brought glory to His Savior...

How to Have the Perfect Home School and Other Myths

Overwhelmed! That’s how I felt so often, so I can only say that grace from the Lord helped me set my face like flint to press on in my homeschooling, home-making, and caring for Chris with his debilitating MS. As each year passed Chris’s MS got worse, I felt like more and more was slipping through the cracks. I regularly had to give that feeling, “You’re a failure” over to God. I just couldn’t do it all; not anywhere near it...

Saying I Love You to Your Family…how about starting a new tradition?

IIt’s Valentine’s Day and you are perhaps planning a special meal for your family or thinking of ways to show them you love them. Are you looking for some new ideas?

In our household, we love traditions. I started many traditions when my children were little that are centered on familiar holidays, like Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, and yes, even Valentine’s Day. I started these specifically to not only draw attention to the significance of that holiday, but also to reinforce the value of our family life together.

When Disease, Disaster, or Death are Part of Your Homeschooling Journey

Living with a spouse with a chronic debilitating disease

affected our homeschooling in ways I could never imagine. While I am thankful Chris lived 15 years after his diagnosis, through that long painful journey I often felt like the impending loss was more than I could bear...

I’m a firm believer that nothing we experience falls outside the realm of God’s all-knowing, merciful care

Our Hearts and God's Heart for Our Kids

I want to thank the Lord for little answers to big, ongoing prayers for my kids. Notice I said little answers and big prayers?

As moms, there are seasons when we cry out to the Lord, again and again for our children when they struggle, waiting for Him to answer our prayers. Sometimes the waiting is very long and the temptation to become discouraged is so very great. It is in that place of waiting and discouragement, moms that we need to keep going to our Father, more than ever.

Homeschooling Survival - taking time to cleanse the palate

I've been doing a LOT of writing for work lately. I don’t mind  writing articles, and appeal letters, and thank you notes, and blog entries…really, but sometimes my head needs a break, especially when all the writing is piled on top of the homeschooling. As I sat thinking about this today I realized...I needed a palate cleanser for my BRAIN!

Helping Our Children Stand Strong in a Changing World – Teaching Your Kids a Biblical Worldview, part 2

Not only do we need to know what His Word, the Bible says about all of life, our children need to understand the various belief systems throughout history and how they impact polity and culture. Giving our children a biblical worldview education trains their minds to evaluate and expose the myths, lies, and errors of the world's thinking...

Longing for Noise

Looking back over 20+ years of homeschooling, I wanted time to be alone. Yep. I admit it. I wished for places of silence in my life. As much as I loved the sounds of life all around me, I longed for moments of stillness throughout most of my parenting and homeschooling years...
