Building the Machine - Sending Out a Charge to Parents and Educators Worldwide

Have you seen the long anticipated documentary on the Common Core: Building the Machine? It's been a little over a week and it has already received over 132k views (although the number is steadily growing as you're reading this). Whether you've seen it yet or not, we've got a charge for you!

Common Core: It's the Biggest Reform You Know Nothing About

March 31 is the launch date of Building the Machine, the first investigative documentary about the Common Core. Building the Machine will introduce the public to the Common Core States Standards Initiative (CCSSI) and its effects on our children’s education. The documentary, created by HSLDA, compiles interviews from principle educational experts, including members of the Common Core Validation Committee.

National Number Knockout “N2K”

HSLDA is a sponsor of the National Number Knockout (N2K) a competition that encourages the improvement of calculating speed and accuracy and enables said improvement in young students. It is a fast-paced game where students roll three dice, use those three numbers to form equations, and ‘knock’ numbers off a board. It is just as simple as Wheel of Fortune, has an iconic board like Jeopardy, and is just as fun as Family Feud.

The DHS Tells Romeike Family “You Can Stay”

Good news! The Department of Homeland Security verbally informed the Home School Legal Defense Association that the Romeike family is being granted indefinite deferred action status. In other words, this means that the order of removal would not be acted on and that the Romeikes can stay.

Supreme Court Declines Romeike

Today, the United States Supreme Court declined to review Uwe and Hannelore Romeike’s asylum case. We knew it was an uphill battle since the Court only accepts 80–100 out of nearly 10,000 requests each year. While we are disappointed, the court’s decision in no way changes our commitment to fight for the Romeikes and homeschooling freedom. The court’s decision is not a decision on the merits of the case—however, it was the last judicial hope for the family.

HSLDA to Testify against Proposed IRS Free Speech Infringement

What do HSLDA and the ACLU have in common? Usually not a lot. However, both HSLDA and the ACLU are standing shoulder to shoulder against proposed regulations by the IRS that would prohibit 501(c)(4) organizations like HSLDA from telling you, American citizens, about what our elected officials are doing.

Will the Supreme Court Take Romeike? Please Pray!

Uwe and Hannelore Romeike were persecuted for homeschooling in Germany. They fled to the United States. The Romeikes were granted political asylum. The U.S. government appealed and the Board of Immigration Appeals reversed, ordering the Romeikes to be deported.

Now the time has come where the Supreme Court is again considering whether to hear Romeike v. Holder, HSLDA's German homeschool asylum appeal.
