Treasuring Freedom

MaryAnn Gaver

Hamburgers on the grill....apple pie with ice cream....cold watermelon....sizzling sparklers..... For me those conjure the casual fun of a summer barbeque on one of my favorite holidays ---- the Fourth of July! And since the 4th is just three days before Austin and Justin's birthday it's always been a perfect time for us to sit out on the deck, invite family and friends over, and celebrate special gifts: the twins, and another precious gift --- that of our freedom in America.

We've made it a family tradition to not only enjoy the local fireworks display in our hometown but to also take a day or two around the holiday to see one of the nation's treasures (Mt. Vernon, Monticello, Williamsburg, Gettysburg, Antietam among them).  One summer we piled into the van and made the one-hour trek to D.C. to visit the U.S. Capitol. It was the first time that we noticed the 19-foot bronze statue of freedom which crowns the Capitol.  That statue, which I'd never noticed before, was a stark reminder of the duty we have to preserve and protect our freedoms.  We have to the responsibility toshun the spreading of moral relativism in Americal and promote an objective morality which follows the Ten Commandments and God's natural law written on our hearts and revealed through Jesus Christ.  I can't wait for this Forth of July and the time to celebrate, embrace and preserve our American freedom.

Enjoy the day!  Keep being a great mom!
